People with mobility difficulties need parking that allows safe and dignified access. Some people need bays close to entrances to minimise walking distance. As a wheelchair user, I do not need to be close to the front, but I do rely on side hatching markings to safely get in & out of the car.
Without such spaces, I can’t transfer into my Wheelchair. I feel the current Blue Badge system does not reflect these different needs. There should be a mix of parking provision, with standard bays near entrances for those with limited mobility & wider bays with side hatchings in suitable locations: the back or sides of car parks, for those who rely on wheelchair/pram access/adaptations. We shouldn't be excluded due to poor parking design. It needs to be more inclusive and better reflect real life mobility needs.
