I understand pubs have been labelled as playing a ‘vital role’ in communities but surely gyms do as well in respect of the health of the UK. We believe greater NHS costs would be incurred if more gyms choose to close due to increasing costs. Having business rates at unaffordable levels can actually reduce the amount of tax received as businesses close voluntarily, reduce staff or go bankrupt. The media has covered this happening to pubs and the PM has reacted, but gyms are also suffering.
