Raise the minimum sentence for hit-and-run crimes to two years imprisonment

Currently, the maximum penalty for leaving the scene of an accident is only six months’ imprisonment. Offenders are often given a fine, points, or community service. We feel this is not strong enough punishment and should be increased.

A minimum sentence of two years must be introduced. We believe six months is not an adequate punishment for such a terrible crime. A minimum sentence of two years would be more in line with the sentence for causing serious injury by careless driving.
