We must ensure all women receive equal, safe, and respectful care during pregnancy and childbirth. Black women in the UK are more likely to experience serious complications during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as being at higher risk of death, as reported by MBRRACE-UK IN 2024. Reasons include delayed diagnosis, untreated conditions, and poorer care. We believe more research and funding are needed to understand these disparities, improve outcomes, and ensure all women receive safe, equal and timely maternity care.
