Require Children’s Faces to Be Hidden in Monetised and Publicly Shared Content

We want the UK Government to introduce legislation requiring content creators to hide or obscure the faces of children in publicly shared or monetised online content, protecting children’s privacy and preventing them from having a permanent digital identity created without their informed consent.

A child cannot consent to having their face permanently placed online. Once shared, images can be copied, redistributed and manipulated by strangers, including being used to create abusive AI images. Most images found in abusive contexts are reported to originate from social media. We believe children should have a legal right to privacy, with creators required to hide children’s faces in publicly shared or monetised content. Children are not content.
