Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, whether he has made an assessment of the potential merits of Homes England ceasing to fund retirement shared ownership schemes where the maximum equity stake available to the purchaser is capped below 100%; and what consumer protections apply to purchasers of such properties.
The Social and Affordable Homes Programme (SAHP) 2026 to 2036 continues to provide funding for Older Persons Shared Ownership (OPSO) which we believe plays an important role in supporting households who would otherwise struggle to purchase a retirement property on the open market that meets their needs.
The Programme places new expectations on shared ownership providers to improve customer experience. These include giving greater consideration to long-term customer affordability and increasing transparency and fairness on costs.
