The Government is clear that it is unacceptable for leaseholders to have to worry about the cost of fixing historic safety defects in their buildings that they did not cause. Government adviser Michael Wade is developing a financing solution that will help to protect leaseholders from unaffordable remediation costs. We must remove barriers to fixing historic defects and identify financing solutions that protect leaseholders from unaffordable costs; but we must also ensure that the bill does not fall unfairly on taxpayers. We will update on progress made to protect leaseholders from unaffordable costs before the final Bill is introduced to Parliament.
