Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Minister of State, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, pursuant to the Answer of 6 December 2023 to Question 4652 on Embassies: Flags, if he will make it his policy to require UK (a) embassies and (b) consulates to illuminate the Union Flag at night.

Flags at our Missions overseas are normally flown during opening hours. Where flags are flown overnight, Heads of Mission have discretion on whether they are illuminated taking into account local circumstances, which may prevent them from doing so.
