Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what plans she has to reduce the number of speeding tickets issued to ambulances and other emergency vehicles.

The enforcement of speeding limits is an operational matter for the police. Under the Road Traffic Regulation Act (1984), any driver using a vehicle for an emergency service purpose can claim an exemption from speeding penalties if complying with the speed limits would have hindered the purpose for which the vehicle was being used.
