Direct Payment into a bank, building society or credit union account is the preferred way to make all government payments. A cross-governmental dedicated Freephone service has been set up within the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). DWP is writing to some Post Office card account users in receipt of DWP, HMRC and Department for Communities (Northern Ireland) payments.
