Question to the HM Treasury:

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what information HM Revenue and Customs holds on the amount of cash to bank generated by its debit management staff on an average working day through their direct interactions with taxpayers and claimants.

In 2016-17, HM Revenue and Customs’ (HMRC’s) debt management staff collected £36.2 billion. If it is assumed that there are 251 working days in a year then this equates to roughly £143 million per working day. HMRC does not hold the further estimate requested.
