DWP does not hold data on Funeral Payments at constituency or city level. The lowest geographical level at which we hold the data is by Social Fund Budget Area; the geographical areas used to administer the Social Fund in Great Britain. The Budget Area covering Glasgow South West, and Glasgow, is Springburn. Table 1 shows the number of Funeral Payment applications and awards in the Springburn Budget Area for 2016/17. These figures will include Funeral Payment awards made in areas outside the constituency of Glasgow South West and Glasgow.

Table 1: Funeral Payment applications and awards in the Springburn Social Fund Budget Area, 2016/17

Year

Applications

Awards

Springburn

4,282

2,855

The figures for Scotland are as follows:

Table 2: Funeral Payment applications and awards in Scotland, 2016/17

Year

Awards

Scotland

5,793

3,780

The following special points should be noted:

  • These figures do not include applications which were processed clerically and have not been entered on to the Social Fund Computer System.
  • The number of awards made in each year is not equal to the number of people who made applications or received awards in that year. An individual may make multiple applications in a given time period.
