Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what discussions he has had with representatives of the UK space sector supply chain on the effect of leaving the (a) single market and (b) customs union on that industry.
The UK has a world-leading space sector and a quarter of the world’s telecommunications satellites are either built here or with key UK components. This Government intends to secure the best possible outcome for the UK as we exit the European Union.
We’ve been clear that we want our companies and universities to continue participating in key EU space programmes, and through our Industrial Strategy and ongoing investment in the UK space sector, we are ensuring we have the infrastructure and skills in place to support our ambition to capture 10% of the global space market by 2030.
