The Care Quality Commission has recently undertaken a study examining the causes of changing rates of detention, under the Mental Health Act (1983) and are due to publish their findings by the end of the year. The Government has also commissioned an independent review of the Mental Health Act, chaired by Professor Sir Simon Wessely, which will report by autumn 2018.
