Question to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities:

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, whether he plans for the Government to act as insurer of last resort for professional indemnity insurance in respect of surveyors who are inspecting buildings in connection with the completion of EWS1 certificates.

The Government is aware that some construction professionals, and fire safety professionals in particular, are struggling to obtain appropriate professional indemnity insurance (PII). The Minister for Fire and Building Safety has held roundtables with representatives from the insurance industry to investigate solutions that could improve the availability of PII for key professionals and their work to make buildings safe.
