Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many people with a learning disability are currently required to wear restraints in hospitals.

Where hospital treatment is required, it should be high quality, the least restrictive and for the shortest time possible. The use of force or restraint should only ever be used proportionately and as a last resort, when all attempts to de-escalate a situation have been employed. NHS England and NHS Improvement have commissioned the deployment of the HOPES training model to reduce the use of restrictive practices and long-term segregation.
