Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what plans the Government has to bring forward legislative proposals to prevent sex selective abortion.
This question was answered on 15th February 2022
The Department has no plans to being forward legislation in this area.
The Department issued guidance in 2014 stating that abortion on the grounds of sex alone is illegal.
Sex is not itself a lawful ground under the Abortion Act.
