The steel strategy set out our aim for around 40-50% of domestic demand to be met by domestic production. In 2023, this figure was 40%. Our aim is therefore to return to that recent capability and stabilise domestic production.

The Steel Strategy creates a more competitive business landscape for steel making. It will attract new investment to the UK, continuing to grow our domestic capability and capacity.
