Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what recent discussions he has had with his Spanish counterpart on Gibraltar’s land border with Spain; and if he will make a statement.
The Foreign Secretary met Spanish Foreign Minister Albares in Madrid on 14 December. They discussed a range of issues including UK-EU negotiations in respect of Gibraltar. All sides are committed to working intensively to conclude a UK-EU Treaty which will ensure the fluid movement of people and goods across Gibraltar's land border. This will help secure future prosperity for both Gibraltar and the surrounding region. The UK remains steadfast in our support for Gibraltar and will not agree to anything that compromises sovereignty.
