Hospitals: Discharges

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will make an estimate of how many patients on NHS wards are ready for discharge but are unable to secure the necessary social care package to allow them to be discharged.

As of the week ending 8 January 2023, there were approximately 14,308 people in hospitals in England who did not meet the criteria to reside and had not been discharged. NHS England does not collect data on patients who are unable to secure the necessary social care package.
