Question to the Department for Education:
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what estimate she has made of the costs incurred by schools of dyslexia assessments; and if she will make a statement.
The Department for Education (DfE) does not collect data on costs incurred by schools in the assessment of dyslexia. Schools are required to identify and address the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) of pupils, including arranging for appropriate tests. They receive funding which enables them to meet additional needs up to £6,000 per pupil with SEND. Building on 2013-16 funding, the DfE is funding the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) and partners in 2017-18, with £500,000 to facilitate better support for children with dyslexia. BDA resources include affordable (£20-£50) on-line screening tools.
