Question to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, if the Government will make an assessment of the potential merits of temporarily displaying the Bayeux Tapestry in the National Museum of Wales; and if he will make a statement.
The level of interest generated by the announcement of the prospective loan of the Bayeux Tapestry shows the great appetite of the UK public for our culture and history. I note the expression of interest of the National Museum of Wales, and many other fine institutions. A decision on where to host the tapestry when it comes to the UK will be made in full consultation with the authorities of the Bayeux Museum. Our primary consideration must be to ensure that the Tapestry is housed in an appropriate venue and that it is accessible by as many people as possible.
