Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, with reference to the Oral contribution of the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy of 30 January 2018, on Agency Workers, official report column 670, whether he plans to abolish the Swedish derogation on agency workers.

The Government wants to ensure that our labour markets work for everyone. That was why my Rt hon Friend the Prime Minister asked Matthew Taylor to carry out an independent review on modern working practices. The Government is considering the issues that the review has raised, including rules governing the use of agency workers and the use of pay between assignment contracts. ​The review is comprehensive and detailed, and we have been giving the report the careful consideration it deserves. We will respond shortly.
