Network Rail: Housing

(asked on 8th February 2018) - View Source

Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what information his Department holds on the number of housing units for rent or sale built by Network Rail or its contractors since 2013.

This question was answered on 26th February 2018

Network Rail has committed to releasing land for homes to support the government’s housing goal of building 1.5 million homes between 2015 and 2022.

Network Rail itself has not built any housing units for rent or sale, and nor has its contractors. Network Rail releases surplus land to sell to developers. The current programme of sales is expected to enable developers to build around 12,000 homes for the period of 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2020. Having sold the land, Network Rail does not have control over nor tracks the number or type of houses built.
