Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, if she will make an assessment of the potential merits of introducing measures to enable former police officers to continue to face disciplinary inquiries by the Independent Office for Police Conduct if evidence emerges after their retirement.
The Policing and Crime Act 2017 introduced provisions enabling the bringing of disciplinary proceedings against former police officers, notwithstanding their departure from the force
Any former officer who receives a disciplinary sanction that they would have been dismissed, had they still been serving, is placed on the police Barred List preventing them from re-joining policing in the future.
