Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how much money from the public purse was spent on the maintenance of NHS hospitals in each of the last five years.

The National Health Service publishes the annual Estates Returns Information Collection (ERIC), which includes detailed information on maintenance costs. Individual NHS trusts are responsible for providing the data for the ERIC and ensuring the accuracy of their returns.

The following table shows the spending on hospital maintenance of each financial year since 2017/18 to 2021/22.
