Question
To ask the Minister for Women and Equalities, what recent steps the Government has taken to increase the representation of women on boards in FTSE 100 companies.
The number of women on FTSE 100 boards increased from 12.5% in 2011 to 27.7% percent in 2017. There are no all-male boards remaining in the FTSE 100, down from 21 in 2010. We are proud of this progress but we also want to go further – that is why we support the Hampton-Alexander Review’s business-led targets for 33% senior leadership positions and board positions to be women by 2020, across the whole FTSE 350. We are continuing to support the Hampton-Alexander Review on their engagement with businesses to ensure that this progress continues.
