Question to the HM Treasury:
To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what recent assessment his Department has made of the potential effect on the economy of crypto-currencies.
This question was answered on 28th February 2018
The Government recognises the significant benefits that digital currencies and the related technology could bring, as well as potential challenges. The Government has not made any formal assessment of the potential effect on the economy of cryptocurrencies, but is monitoring the situation.
The Government has no plans at this time to issue guidance on the use of cryptocurrencies.
