The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care announced the development of a Major Condition Strategy, including stroke, with an interim report to be published this summer.

About 8% of patients suffering from an ischemic stroke in England could benefit from a thrombectomy. There is strong evidence that, when used appropriately, thrombectomy significantly reduces the severity of disability caused by stroke. NHS England is committed to bringing about a tenfold increase in the delivery of mechanical thrombectomy.
