No specific assessment has been made as local health infrastructure needs are determined by local health system planners in collaboration with NHS England and NHS Improvement.

As part of the Health Infrastructure Plan launched in 2019, the Government committed to build 40 new hospitals by 2030, funded by an initial £3.7 billion, alongside eight previously announced schemes. In July 2021, the Government announced the selection process for the further eight new hospitals. The proposal for trusts to submit an expression of interest closed in September 2021. There were no expressions of interest received for a new acute, mental health or community hospital in the city of York.
