Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, whether she has raised the death of Mboneni Ncube with her Zimbabwean counterpart.
The UK remains concerned by reports of violent attacks on opposition supporters in Zimbabwe and is saddened by the death of Mboneni Ncube. We have been clear with the Government of Zimbabwe that they must meet their international and domestic obligations by respecting the rule of law and safeguarding human rights, including by ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. I raised our concerns about attacks on opposition supporters when I spoke to President Mnangagwa on 1 November 2021 at COP26. The Embassy in Harare regularly raises our concerns on human rights with the Government of Zimbabwe, most recently with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 16 February.
