Question to the Department for Exiting the European Union :
To ask the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, whether it remains the position of the Government that the UK should withdraw from both the customs union and the single market.
The Prime Minister and this Government have been consistently clear on both these issues, and they are explored in detail in pages 35 to 49 of the Government's White Paper The United Kingdom's exit from and new partnership with the European Union.
We will not seek membership of the Single Market after we leave the EU, but will pursue instead a bold and ambitious Free Trade Agreement as part of a new, deep and special partnership. In doing so, we will take back control of our laws and bring an end to the direct jurisdiction of the Court of Justice of the EU in the UK.
