Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether his Department has commissioned research on solar panel roadways and associated technology; and if he will make a statement.

The Department for Transport has not commissioned research on solar panel roadways and associated technology. Highways England are currently considering their strategy for work on solar panel roadways and the Department is aware of a private initiative to trial this technology currently underway in Cambridge. The Department is also monitoring similar schemes overseas, including in France, the Netherlands and the United States of America, and will continue to monitor their progress.
