In the Levelling Up White Paper the Government set out its ambition to reduce the number of non-decent rented homes by 50% by 2030 with the biggest improvements in the lowest performing areas. In the Charter for Social Housing Residents the Government committed to a range of measures to drive up the quality of social housing, including through the introduction of a new, proactive consumer regulation regime and a review the Decent Home Standard. The Secretary of State also recently announced £30 million which will be divided equally between Greater Manchester and West Midlands and is to improve the physical decency of social housing. It will be targeted at homes with serious (category 1) hazards, including homes where damp and mould is a threat to health.
