To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what steps his Department has taken to protect the independence of regional press organisations.

We are committed to a free and independent press, and only intervene in cases where publishers have broken the law. This is vital to a strong and fully functioning democracy where the powerful can be held to account without fear.
