Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what recent steps his Department has taken to encourage exercise among 13 to 17 year olds.

The Government published ‘School Sport and Activity Action Plan’ in July 2019, to provide children with greater opportunity to do 60 minutes of sport and physical activity every day inside and outside school. This is available at the following link:

In addition, Public Health England (PHE) published the update of ‘What Works in Schools and Colleges to increase Physical Activity’ in July 2019. This revised document presents a framework of eight principles for schools and colleges to follow when taking a whole school approach to increasing physical activity.
