Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to paragraph 1.8 of the Migration Advisory Committee’s report of 27 March 2018, EEA-workers in the UK labour market: Interim Update, what steps he plans to take to address employers' concerns that without employing migrants, they would not be able to address the skill shortages they are currently facing.
The Government is considering a range of options for the future immigration system and will set out initial plans in due course. We will build a comprehensive picture of the needs and interests of all parts of the UK and look to develop a system which works for all.
We will make decisions on the future immigration system based on evidence and engagement, which why we asked the independent Migration Advisory Committee to advise on the economic and social impacts of the UK’s exit from the EU and also on how the UK’s immigration system should be aligned with a modern industrial strategy. The MAC is due to provide a final report in September.
