Schools must have a behaviour policy which outlines measures to encourage good behaviour and prevent all forms of bullying among pupils, but they are free to develop these according to their own particular circumstances. To help schools develop effective strategies the Department has produced advice for schools which covers what should be included in the behaviour policy, which is available to view here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/674416/Searching_screening_and_confiscation.pdf.

The Department has announced a review of exclusions practice, led by Edward Timpson CBE. The review will consider practice in schools in relation to behaviour management and exclusions, particularly for those groups disproportionately likely to be excluded. This includes some groups of pupils from Black and Minority Ethnic groups.
