Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many and what proportion of people with (a) Stage 1 Hepatitis C and (b) with Stage 1 Hepatitis C and HIV have registered with the England Infected Blood Support Scheme; and how many and what proportion of people in each of those groups were successful in their application.
All beneficiaries registered with the five former infected blood payments schemes were written to and asked to give their consent for their details to be passed to the new administrator NHS Business Services Authority.
The numbers of beneficiaries currently registered with the England Infected Blood Support Scheme administered by the NHS Business Services Authority are as follows, this includes all of those who gave consent to their details being transferred and any new, successful applicants:
Beneficiary group | Numbers registered with NHS Business Services Authority as of 4 April 2018 (this includes all new successful registrants) |
Hepatitis C - Stage 1 | 1,399 |
Hepatitis C - Stage 1 and HIV | 113 |
Hepatitis C - Stage 2 | 644 |
Hepatitis C - Stage 2 and HIV | 63 |
HIV | 311 |
Bereaved former partners | 189 |
We have interpreted the question about applications to be about new applications to the support schemes. Since 1 November 2017, 24 new registrant applications have been approved.
