Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many asylum cases that were sent to the Migration Refusal Pool were returned to the Home Department in (a) 2016 and (b) 2017.

Asylum cases are not sent to the Migration Refusal Pool (MRP). The MRP consists of non-asylum cases, where records indicate that an individual has made an unsuccessful application to remain in the UK and is therefore awaiting return to their country of origin.

The cases of failed asylum seekers are not managed as part of the MRP, as these cases are managed separately by UK Visas and Immigration and Immigration Enforcement. The number of failed asylum seekers subject to removal action is published as part of the Home Office transparency arrangements and can be found at table ASY-03:
