Question to the HM Treasury:

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, if he will make it his policy to remove VAT on household energy bills in response to the effects of the covid-19 outbreak on household finances.

Households already benefit from a reduced rate of 5 per cent of VAT on domestic fuels such as gas and electricity.

Although the Government keeps all taxes under review, there are no plans to change the current VAT treatment of domestic energy.
