Question to the Department for Transport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether his Department is taking steps to encourage homeowners to install charging infrastructure for electric vehicles; and if he will make a statement.
The Government currently provides assistance to drivers of new and used electric vehicles to support the cost of installing chargepoints in their homes under the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme. This grant provides funding of up to 75% (capped at £500) towards the cost of installing dedicated electric vehicle chargepoints at domestic properties across the UK.
In addition, as announced in November 2017 in the Industrial Strategy, building regulations will be amended to ensure that cabling infrastructure is provided for chargepoints when new dwellings are built, to help future-proof new homes and avoid retrofitting costs.
The Government’s forthcoming strategy on the transition to zero emission road transport will detail the role of Government in supporting electric vehicle infrastructure for homeowners as well as more widely.
