Based on the information that is currently held by the Department and its agencies (namely the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, Vehicle Certification Agency, and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency), there are approximately 200 information gateways in operation.

We manage and monitor our information gateways by assigning them to trained Information Asset Owner (IAOs). These IAOs are responsible for ensuring that information is shared in a way that is both lawful and consistent with the Department’s aims and objectives. The IAOs are supported by data protection and information assurance experts, as well as the Department’s lawyers where appropriate, to ensure that they understand their responsibilities to protect sensitive information.
