The Department’s new executive agency, Active Travel England, is funding a range of projects to enable more people to walk and cycle, including providing funding to local authorities to provide, or loan, cycles to children and adults. Separately, the Bikeability cycle training programme provides cycles in many schools where children do not have their own cycles for undertaking cycle training. In 2022/23 the Department provided £20 million to the Bikeability Trust, sufficient funding for half a million children to take part in cycle training.
