Disabled Students' Allowances

Question to the Department for Education:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, pursuant to the Answer of 9 May 2018 to Question 139972 on Disabled Students' Allowances, what estimate he has made of the potential cost to the public purse of funding the £200 contribution made by students in receipt of Disabled Students’ Allowance for the purchase of computer hardware in each year up to 2023.

The department has no plans to change the requirement for the £200 contribution to the cost of computer equipment and has made no assessment of the potential cost of doing so. Computers are a mainstream cost for all students and it is right therefore that students eligible for the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) should contribute towards the cost of their DSAs-recommended computer equipment.
