Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the implications for his policies of the narrative verdict given by the Birmingham Coroner on 27 May 2022 on the death of Jack Hurn; and if he will take steps to inform health service practitioners about that verdict.

The Department has not received a Prevention of Future Deaths report in this case and therefore no specific assessment has been made. However, if received, the Department will respond within the statutory deadline of 56 days. The National Health Service will continue to work with its partners on the coroner’s findings to ensure that any further lessons learned are disseminated to clinicians.
