The Department commissions research through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). The NIHR has allocated approximately £117,509,455 for COVID-19 vaccine research, including monitoring of adverse reactions and trials of the Pfizer, Novavax and Janssen vaccines where safety and efficacy was the primary focus.

The NIHR welcomes funding applications for research into any aspect of human health, including the safety of COVID-19 vaccines.
