Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether his Department has made an assessment of the potential impact of rail service renationalisation on (a) employment levels, (b) direct jobs in train operating companies and (c) indirect jobs across the wider rail supply chain.

As part of the public ownership programme, existing staff at train operating companies will be able to transfer to the relevant public sector operator with their terms and conditions protected under TUPE regulations.

In future, these passenger services will be operated by Great British Railways. Great British Railways design is underway, working with Network Rail, DfT Operator and the wider industry.

The ownership of the supply chain will remain private and they will continue to play a critical role in delivering a better railway. No assessment of supply chain jobs has been undertaken, and employment levels remain a matter for individual companies.
