Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what assessment he has made of the implications for his policies of the World Trade Organization 15 May 2018 ruling that the European Union failed to comply with requests to end subsidies for Airbus.

I welcome the positive report by the Appellate Body in the dispute brought by the US on support to Airbus. It confirms that the EU has not provided any prohibited subsidies and has taken the necessary action regarding the bulk of the findings in the original WTO case. Nevertheless, a small number of issues remain for the EU to deal with. We take our international commitments seriously and we are acting swiftly to make sure that we are in line with WTO rules. We now look forward to the WTO report into the US efforts to bring themselves into line with WTO requirements, following previous rulings that confirmed continuing massive US government support to Boeing
