Since the 2015 Spending Review police numbers have been broadly stable.

The Police Workforce at March 2016 was 200,922 compared to 198,388 in September 2017 (-1.2%). However, in the 12 months between September 2016 and 2017 the police workforce increased by 180 (0.1%).

Most Police and Crime Commissioners have set out plans to either protect or increase frontline policing following the 2018-19 police funding settlement.
